T he Leratong Advice Centre, in partnership with the Consortium for Refugees and Migrants in South Africa (CoRMSA), hosted a June 16 Commemoration at the Ramokonopi Resource Centre in Katlehong under the theme “Youth as Community Leaders of Today.”
The interactive session brought together the youth of Katlehong, who shared their experiences and insights on the challenges faced by young people in educational settings, including bullying, sexual violence, alcohol and substance abuse, and teacher-student relationships. The event honoured the youth of 1976, empowered young people, addressed documentation issues, created a platform for youth engagement, strengthened partnerships, and encouraged collective action. Participants included school learners, youth organisations, government departments, civil society organisations, educators, and local community leaders, all coming together to celebrate and advance the role of youth as leaders within their communities
