In collaboration with Save the Children South Africa and Lawyers for Human Rights, the Consortium for Refugees and Migrants South Africa (CoRMSA) hosted a workshop in Mpumalanga, Nelspruit, aimed at engaging both migrant and local communities on advancing access and protection of human rights for all, as enshrined in the South African Constitution.

The workshop sought to empower participants by raising awareness about their rights and guiding them on how to claim and protect these rights. Key topics included statelessness, documentation, and the care and protection of unaccompanied, separated, and migrant children. The goal was to ensure that everyone, regardless of their nationality status, has access to their basic human rights, including the right to be documented.

Surprisingly, it’s not only migrants facing challenges in obtaining documentation; many South Africans are also undocumented due to various reasons, which affects their ability to fully participate in society. This underscores the need for urgent action and collaboration to address these issues and ensure equal access to rights and services.

As CoRMSA, we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that everyone’s rights are realised, regardless of nationality, and that no one is left behind. Together, we can work towards a future where every voice is heard, and every person is seen.

Let’s join hands and ensure that human rights are upheld for all!
