CoRMSA, in collaboration with its member organisations, Lawyers for Human Rights, Refugee Social Services, Refugee Pastoral Care, Africa Unite, and partner, HIAS South Africa, was proud to celebrate Heritage Day under the theme “Unity in Diversity through Human Rights and Living Heritage.” This special event was held in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, and aimed to highlight the importance of human rights while promoting social cohesion, unity, and togetherness among migrant and local communities from diverse cultural backgrounds, nationalities, and races.
At its core, Heritage Day is about embracing the rich cultural tapestry that defines South Africa, and this celebration is a powerful reminder that our differences make us stronger. By fostering understanding and respect among various communities, we can build a society that values equality, dignity, and inclusivity for all.
The event featured vibrant activities that encouraged participants to share and celebrate their cultures while reflecting on the significance of human rights. Through this celebration, we intended to increase awareness of human rights issues, promote peaceful co-existence, and contribute to a more united and cohesive society.
CoRMSA and its member organisations are dedicated to the ongoing work of advancing the rights of refugees, migrants, and asylum seeker communities. We believe that through education, collaboration, and mutual respect, we can build a society that truly embodies the spirit of unity in diversity.
Let’s stand together, united in our diversity, as we celebrate Heritage Day and the human rights that bind us all!
